Strain Profile

Alien Tarantula by Top Shelf is an Indica Dominant Hybrid that brings a deep level of relaxation and potential medical properties that absolutely demands love and respect. A cross between Alien Tech and Tarantula strains, the name alone brings an image to mind of a cybernetic spider from outer space invading the planet. Rather than screaming in horror at the invasion of our potential eight-legged alien overlords, I prefer the more laid-back version brought to us by Top Shelf. Fluffy green buds, frosty crystals throughout the corona, and just enough sticky resin that after breaking up the bud, my fingers were tacky. I am really looking forward to this review.

Top Shelf

Top Shelf is an I-502 Tier 3 producer/processor here in Washington State and has been in business since 2012. For most, Top Shelf needs no introduction, and if you are familiar with Top Shelf, then the charismatic front man, TJ Werth, also needs no introduction. Whether or not he is your cup of tea, there is no denying the man is passionate about his product and the industry as a whole. “Our vision is to help promote growth in the cannabis industry through responsibility and education. TJ is active in several political organizations and speaks in Olympia frequently. Our mission is to help promote an open and free market where consumers can benefit from healthy competition and innovation.”

With innovative packaging and products, it is no wonder Top Shelf is one of the most requested companies here at White Rabbit. Their bud is packaged in 3 sizes; the dub (2g in a shot glass), the double dub (4g in a beer sampling size glass), the mug o love (14g glass coffee mug), and the pounder (28g in a 16oz pounder glass). Availability of specific strains in specific sizes will vary in store.

Alien Tarantula Review

When you open the lid, you’ll notice a sweet honey-like aroma with a slight hint of fuel and earthiness. The buds are a bright green with orange hairs, some purple leaves throughout, and trichome frosting all over. It has a very enticing aroma that weaves its web around you (pun intended) and seduces you to go further into the nest by smoking or vaping the bud. The buds are very resinous, providing a sticky tackiness to the ends of my fingers as I pull them apart. You can always tell a good cured bud when it has obviously been dried, with no residual moisture, and the sticky resin is still abundant. This one had so much stickiness to it that when it was ground up, the weed still stuck together in a ball. It was really quite impressive.

The smoke is similar to the aroma; I get a lot of sweet honey, some floral notes, and a hint of fuel. It is really an enjoyable experience through and through.
The effects are the most astounding to me. This is an Indica Hybrid, to the point where I would qualify the body relaxation as the Indica part, but the mental high as the hybrid. Let me explain. Mentally, I was alert, creative, and wanting to do something, whether it was watching TV, doing some gaming, or something entertaining. Physically, I was completely relaxed, albeit a little numb, like the poison of a spider bite nullifying my nervous system.

This strain is an amazing afternoon or early evening Indica, as it can provide the relief you need after a long day without completely shutting you down for the night. Overall, a great strain by Top Shelf, not that it is surprising as they always do good work.

The Final Puff

Top Shelf is a bold name to use in this industry, but they deliver on that name every time. TJ and crew produce some of the nicest and most flavorful buds I have experienced in the industry, and they live up to the name “Top Shelf.” Alien Tarantula is a fine example of the type of product they consistently put out. It provides a great euphoric yet creative head high whilst providing the full body relaxation and, dare I say, pain desensitization that people look for in an Indica.

Some consumers report relief from the following ailments: Arthritis, Inflammation, Alzheimer’s, Bipolar Disorder, Muscular Dystrophy, Insomnia, Migraines, Pms, Add/Adhd, and Anorexia. While not scientific medical claims, user experiences can help direct people to a strain that may be helpful for whatever ails them. This strain has definitely helped me with some of the areas I live with above.

Alien Tarantula has a plethora of terpenes that provide astounding flavor and amazing effects. We have many Top Shelf strains at the White Rabbit. Stop by today to pick up some Alien Tarantula or another strain from this great grower!
